JORDAN EMPLOYEE 'CLAIMED BENEFITS'

8th October 2007

A woman falsely claimed benefits for nearly two years while she was working for glamour model Jordan, a court has heard.

Joanne Hillman, 34, started working as a stable-hand for the model - whose real name is Katie Price - in about June 2003, Lewes Crown Court was told.

Opening the case for the Department for Work and Pensions, prosecutor Daniel Jameson said: "Originally her duties involved cleaning out horses and mostly stable work and for that she was paid a wage by Miss Price.

"As time went on, Miss Hillman's duties became more involved.

"She never notified anybody of this.

"This went on for 100 weeks and two days."

When officials discovered Hillman was working, they sent her letters telling her she had received over-payments but she did not reply, Mr Jameson said.

She was later interviewed and made no comment.

Hillman, of Cowley Drive, Woodingdean, Brighton, East Sussex, is accused of dishonestly failing to promptly notify the Department for Work and Pensions and Brighton and Hove City Council that she was working - knowing that it would affect her entitlement to income support, housing benefit and council tax benefit.

She denies three counts of dishonestly failing to give prompt notification of a change of circumstances between June 2003 and January 2006, contrary to the Social Security Administration Act 1992.
